Delhi, the capital of India, is situated in northern India and stands on the west bank of Yamuna River bounded by Uttar Pradesh and on the north, west and south by Haryana. Delhi is spread over an area of 1483 sq. kilometres, 216 meters above sea level and has a population of around 14 million. The city has its historical importance for the fact that it has been the home to Mughal Empire. Delhi, as described by the famous poet Mirza Ghalib, is "The world is body and Delhi its soul".Apart from its historical importance, Delhi also happens to be the political hub of India, where every political activity in the country traces its roots to Delhi.
Start in the morning with Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi’s cremation site), followed by Jama Masjid, a huge mosque built in red sandstone & must visit in Old Delhi.
Next to Chandni Chowk, the noisy & oldest market in India. From here we take a rickshaw ride to Red Fort.Red Fort is one of the most magnificent palaces in the world. India's history is also closely linked with this fort. It was forth here at the British deposed the last Mughal ruler, Bahadur Shah Zafar, marking the end of the three century long Mughal rule. It was also fromits ramparts that the first prime minister of India, pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, announced to the nation that India was free form colonial rule.another red sandstone building & was residence for many Mughal Emperors.
Move on to New Delhi, begin with Qutub Minar. Built in 1192 the complex has a iron pillar which has stood from thousands of year without rusting. Later proceed for Humayun Tomb, Rashtrapati Bhawan & finish with India Gate.
